Conveying instructions directly to officers in the field is what Director-General of Police P. Rajendran did to reduce the occurrence of road accidents, which was taking a heavy toll on human lives. Using the video-conferencing facility, he spoke to the Superintendents of Police of Tiruchi, Madurai and Coimbatore districts and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Coimbatore Range, on the need to take steps to bring down accidents, several of which occur early in the morning.

One reason for accidents was the drowsiness that overcame individuals while driving. He suggested that at regular intervals on the highway police advise drivers to be cautious while driving and to refresh themselves when they felt sleepy.
