TIRUCHI: The 18th national livestock census, conducted by the Department of Animal Husbandry, began in the district on Saturday.

About 840 specially trained enumerators and 84 supervisors will conduct the census.

They will conduct the census house-to-house and farm-to-farm in the city and rural areas over the next one month. They will take count of goats/sheep, cows/bulls, pigs, poultry, horses, dogs and other animals.

The forest areas will also be covered. Collector Ashish Vachhani released a handbook, detailing the procedural guidelines for the enumerators, here on Saturday in the presence of Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry R. Selvaraj.
