Jayasirpi paintings of a pollution-free earth at Nageswara Rao Park

CHENNAI: Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore wore the look of an art gallery on Sunday showcasing paintings on the significance of environmental conservation.

The paintings by artist Jayasirpi depict his vision of a pollution-free earth and the role of government agencies, at national and international levels, in preserving the natural resources.

One of his paintings that substituted the mountain of herbs in Hanuman’s palm with a missive to the United Nations Organisation to protect the earth won visitors’ appreciation. Foundation chief patron B. Purushothaman, commended Mr. Jayasirpi’s creative spirit that changed Hanuman’s role to suit a modern world’s needs.

Most of the 100 oil and acrylic paintings by the artist highlight his passion for preserving ecology. Paintings that depicted the hazards of melting ice in the polar region and water bodies turned into garbage dumps in the city were eye catching.

The 78-year-old artist, who pursued his childhood hobby after retiring from the Animal Husbandry department, conveys his messages through paintings, be it for the development of a bird sanctuary in Pallikaranai swamp or greening of the Cooum river belt.

Several exhibits carry descriptions of their theme or the artist’s message. Mr. Jayasirpi plans to conduct similar exhibitions in public places and educational institutions to create awareness about the need to protect the environment.

The exhibition will be on till September 23 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
