It is expected to cost the civic body Rs. 25 crore

Chennai: The Chennai Corporation proposes to construct a yoga and meditation centre, jogging track and a children’s play area on the Tiruvanmiyur beach as part of the beautification plan.

These facilities figure in the blueprint for the project (over a 2.5 km stretch from Ashtalakshmi Temple in Besant Nagar to the city limits on New Beach Road extension) that was chosen from a set of designs submitted by various architects.

The Tiruvanmiyur beach, located south of Elliot’s Beach, is frequented mostly by residents of Tiruvalluvar Nagar, Valmiki Nagar and Kottivakkam.

The city’s beach beautification project, estimated to cost Rs. 25 crore, has been divided into four packages: the stretch from Rajaji Salai to Napier Bridge; Marina; Elliot’s Beach and Tiruvanmiyur.

More lung space

The Chennai Corporation will spend Rs. 12 crore on the improvement of parks in the city this fiscal, a press release issued on Friday said.

User-friendly footpaths, more lawns and plants and better children’s play equipment are proposed for about 20 parks.

They include Krishnamoorthy Nagar Park, Anna Park, Sanjay Nagar Park, Senthil Nagar Park and MKB Nagar Park in north Chennai and Sundararao Park, Jeeva Park, Sivan Park, Indira Nagar Fourth Avenue Park and Tiruvalluvar Nagar Park in south Chennai.
