“We have decided to hone their shooting skills by organising exclusive camps”
TIRUCHI: Tamil Nadu Directorate of National Cadet Corps has planned to give fresh impetus to the periodical training in shooting and adventure activities such as bungee jumping and para-gliding, Commodore U. N. Chitnavis, Deputy Director-General of NCC Directorate, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has said.
Overseeing the on-going Combined Annual Training Camp-cum-Thal Sainik Camp (TSC) here on Friday for the cadets of the Tamil Nadu Directorate selected for TSC, starting September 21 in New Delhi, he said that the NCC Directorates across the country have stepped up the frequency of training camps for shooting.
“Many of the TSC cadets have been taking part in shooting events and have bagged national level laurels. We have decided to pick them all and hone their shooting skills by organising exclusive camps,” he said.
Career guidance classes for the cadets have been given a face-lift, what with the group trainers being given training under a career counsellor based at Delhi.
“We tell the students about the kind of career growth available in all venues. We take note of their interest and major subjects to narrow down their career choices.”
For those who are interested in joining the armed forces, the Directorate would shortlist the cadets and give them training at NCC Officers Training Academy, Gwalior.
The training would guide the cadets appearing for Service Selection Board test and interview. The Directorate has planned grand celebrations on NCC Day, celebrated on last Sunday of every November, marking the 150th anniversary of First War of Independence and 60th Independence Day.
