TAMBARAM: A section of advocates stayed away from the proceedings at the Judicial Magistrate and District Munsif Court in Alandur on Thursday in support of their demands that included the construction of an Integrated Court Complex and constituting an Additional District Munsif Court.

Members of the Alandur Bar Association said though land for the Integrated Court Complex was identified, work was yet to begin. Work on the project in Alandur should commence without any further delay, the advocates said, adding that at present, the court was functioning in rented premises. The monthly rent paid to Alandur Municipality was more than Rs. 30,000.

The advocates also protested a proposal to re-organise certain areas of jurisdiction covered by the Alandur court.

At present, cases handled by police stations in Pallikaranai and Alandur ‘fircas’ (revenue villages) were handled in Alandur court.

The Government, advocates said, had planned to remove certain areas from Alandur ‘firca’ in order to transfer them to other courts.
