CHENNAI: A new interpretation centre to provide information on various aspects of wildlife and forests is being established at Guindy National Park (GNP).

The upcoming facility will have pictorial display boards to disseminate information on the flora and fauna to the visitors. It will host a library.

The centre, which is expected to be ready within a week, is coming up in a building where seized sandalwood and logs of red sanders used to be stored, according to Forest Department officials.

A senior officer said one portion of the interpretation centre would have display boards and models explaining the importance of GNP and the flora and fauna found in the park. The library would be created in another part of the building, where books on forest, wildlife and environment would be kept.

Products made of secondary timber species and information panels explaining the utility value of timber species would be on display.
