Computer centre opened to expedite distribution of ration cards
THENI: A total of 10,520 gas stoves with liquefied petroleum gas connection will be given to eligible beneficiaries before November, said A. Thamizharasi, Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare.
She was distributing colour television sets and gas stoves to several beneficiaries at a function held at Bodinayakkanur near here on Thursday.
About 7,293 families had received stoves with gas connections in the district so far. Total value of distribution of gas stoves was Rs.2.10 crore.
The district administration has been making massive efforts to distribute house pattas to people residing on encroached land, she added.
In his special address, the Collector, Har Sahay Meena, said that a computer centre had been opened to speed up distribution of ration cards. Steps were being taken to distribute ration cards to 5,500 persons in the district. Free house pattas had been given to 1,792 beneficiaries so far.
In the first phase, 996 gas connections were given and 6,297 connections disbursed in the second phase. The main aim of these schemes was to uplift poor and enhance their living conditions, he added.
Later, the Minister distributed 264 television sets worth Rs.8.05 lakhs, gas connection to 25 beneficiaries and house pattas to 528 persons.
The Special Representative for Tamil Nadu in Delhi, P. Selvendran, Bodi MLA S. lakshmanan and others spoke.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated a new building for Adi Dravidar students hostel at T. Ranganathapuram in Bodi and inspected the Adi Dravidar hostels in Kottur and in the schools at Kunnoor and Bomminaickenpatti. She also took part in a review meeting at the collectorate.
