SALEM: The construction of an overhead water tank near the New Integrated Bus Stand under the Salem Corporations Added Area Water Supply Scheme is progressing steadily.

The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, implementing agency for the scheme, has taken up the work under the Package III of the scheme. The tank is constructed with the capacity of 15-lakh litres.

If completed, the Corporation would be able to provide adequate supply of water to the bus stand and the nearby residential colonies.

The board is constructing a total of five tanks under Package III of the scheme. Apart from the work at New Integrated Bus Stand, tanks are also constructed at Alagapuram, Alagapuram Pudur, Chinna Kollapatty and Ayyanthirumaligai, officials said.

The scheme envisaged the construction of 20 overhead tanks to provide Cauvery river water to all the added areas of the Corporation. Earlier, two tanks under Package I and one under Package II were constructed and put into use. Construction of 10 tanks under Package II and IV had been completed and two were under progress, officials said.
