Based on issues of economic viability

MADURAI: Based upon the issues of livelihood and economic viability, Periyar dam, Devikulam and Peermedu should be joined with the Tamil Nadu State, said Alathur Govindan, secretary of the Vaigai-Kiruthumal River Irrigation Committee.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said , “Keeping in mind the livelihood of one crore people of the five districts of Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram, who depend upon Mullaperiyar water for drinking and agriculture purposes, the Centre should act immediately to resolve the problem by redrawing the State boundary.”

Mr. Govindan warned that if the Centre failed to take necessary steps to resolve the issue, the committee members, with enough archival evidence, would file a case in the Supreme Court.
