Stalin to lay stone for extension hospital

MADURAI: Minister for Local Administration M.K. Stalin will lay the foundation stone for a multi-storeyed extension hospital of Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here on August 22, the Minister for Health, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, said here on Thursday.

Briefing presspersons after inspecting the arrangements for the function at the Anna Bus Stand, venue for the extension hospital, he said that in addition to the Rs. 22-crore project, Mr. Stalin would also lay the foundation stone for the Harveypatti-Anaiyur drinking water scheme, estimated to cost Rs.19 crore and upgrading of Kallandiri, Alanganallur and Samayanallur primary health centres to 30-bed hospitals at a cost of Rs.2.5 crore. The Minister would also inaugurate the Koodal Nagar railway overbridge constructed at a cost of Rs.5.4 crore and upgraded facilities at Race Course Stadium, which include state-of-the-art synthetic track, basketball and volleyball courts, got up at a cost of Rs.4 crore.

Mr. Stalin would disburse welfare assistance to over 30,000 beneficiaries and inaugurate various development works completed at a cost of Rs.56 crore, Mr. Ramachandran said.

Collector S. S. Jawahar, GRH Dean (in charge) S.M. Sivakumar, Resident Medical Officer R. Mathivanan and other officials accompanied Mr. Ramachandran.
