KARUR: The Assembly Committee on Public Sector Undertakings will strive to expedite the process of sanctioning construction of a new cement plant to productively and profitably use the fly ash generated by the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) at its Kagithapuram plant near here.

The panel will do its best to push the proposal till it reached its logical end, panel Chairman G.K.Mani said here on Thursday following a spot inspection of the facility. MLAs Raja, Gayathri Devi, Sankari Narayanan, Arunmozhidevan, Vijayakumar, Velumani and V. Senthil Balaji formed part of the panel that visited the TNPL plant, a common effluent treatment plant at Sukkaliyur and the Government Hospital here during their day long inspection tour.

The team members had a discussion with the TNPL officials led by the Managing Director V. Moorthy at the Kagithapuram facility. Mr. Moorthy briefed the panel on the mill development plan being executed, plans to reduce pollution, moves to establish a cement plant to productively and profitably utilise the fly ash from the paper mill and also the schemes being executed under the corporate social responsibility sector. Mr. Mani lauded the TNPL for the exemplary results over the past years and its social commitment. He also suggested that the TNPL start an engineering college to broad base its educational services.
