Krishnagiri: A total of 240 bags of rice worth Rs.2.64 lakh meant for supply under the Public Distribution System (PDS), which were being smuggled in a lorry, were seized by Revenue officials near here on Friday.

Acting on instructions from Collector Santhosh Babu, a team led by District Revenue Officer V. Mohanraj was conducting vehicle checks near Namaz Parai, when it intercepted a lorry laden with rice bags.

The lorry was going from Dharmapuri to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing in the open market.

The lorry was handed over to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

The Food Cell police have registered a case.
