TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (TIDITSSIA) is geared to boost entrepreneurship in business process outsourcing (BPO) by assisting 30 youths in starting 15-seat units under the aegis of Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Project (STED) promoted by the Department of Science and Technology.

The entrepreneurs, who would be chosen next week from 100 applicants, including many with engineering degrees, would be granted loans by the Canara Bank under the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) for educated unemployed youth, said the Project Director of TIDITSSIA-STED, C. Ramaswami Desai.

The maximum loan for each entrepreneur under the PMRY has been raised from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh and he can repay it in five years. An entrepreneur contributing 20 per cent of the loan gets a subsidy of Rs. 12,500.

The activities will centre around data entry and processing while voice-based operations would follow later. The Association is close to striking a deal with the computer industry for bulk supply of machines to the units at Rs. 11,000 a piece.

The units, which would be sub-contracting centres for Chennai-based players, could earn for each entrepreneur Rs. 30,000 every month, said Mr. Desai. More entrepreneurs would be brought under the BPO ambit in later phases. The TIDITSSIA proposes to form a group of entrepreneurs for setting up a 100-seat facility to impress the MNCs.
