Karunanidhi to launch it in Chennai

CHENNAI: The State Government would launch on July 29 the third phase of the scheme to provide assistance to the educated unemployed youth, covering 3.38 lakh more beneficiaries, according to Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan.

In a release here on Saturday, the Minister said the third phase of the scheme would be inaugurated by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Chennai. His cabinet colleagues would disburse the cash assistance to the beneficiaries in 27 places in the State on the same day, he said.

As promised by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in its manifesto for the Assembly elections in 2006 and the announcement in the State budget for 2006-2007, the Government launched the scheme in Tiruchi on November 11, 2006, to provide monthly financial assistance for the educated youth who had not been employed even after completion of five years from the date of registration in the employment exchanges, he said.

Under the scheme, financial assistance would be given at the rate of Rs.150 for those who had passed the school final examination, Rs.200 for those who had passed higher secondary and Rs.300 for graduates and postgraduates, Mr. Anbazhagan said.

The second phase of the scheme was launched on February 24 in Coimbatore, he added.
