“The entire process lacked transparency”

MADURAI: The open counselling for transfers of Government school teachers was conducted here on Saturday amid protests by teachers that the “process lacked transparency” and vacancies at recently upgraded schools were not considered.

The counselling was held in two sessions at the District Chief Educational Office for teachers seeking transfers within and out of the district.

Chief Educational Officer R. Pandurangan and other department officials conducted the counselling process which was attended by 288 teachers. Twenty six teachers were issued transfer orders.

Even as the counselling was on, Tamil Nadu Post Graduate Teachers’ Association members criticised the authorities for not intimating rural teachers in advance about the counselling session. K. P. O. Suresh, the Association State organising secretary, told reporters that the vacancy list was not displayed at the venue to the disadvantage of many teachers.

He also said that vacancies at the seven recently upgraded middle and high schools in the district were not included in the list.

The association, which demanded that the Government conduct a fresh counselling session, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Educational Officer.
