The schemes get huge sums, but are not transparent, says PT chief
CHENNAI: Puthiya Tamilagam president K. Krishnasamy has urged the State Government to involve local people in the selection and implementation of schemes under the Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Dr. Krishnasamy said huge amounts were being allotted for schemes under the mission. But there was no transparency though the Centre had issued guidelines for the selection and implementation of the schemes.
A major reason for the outbreak of epidemics such as chikungunya and cholera, he said, was the unhygienic conditions prevailing in the State. About 40 per cent of the people did not get protected water and did not have proper toilet facilities. The party would launch a people’s movement demanding distribution of free house site pattas and provision of modern toilets to those living below the poverty line.
He opposed handing over prime agricultural land in the State to big industrial houses.
