SIVAGANGA: The police investigating the sensational bomb blast case in which the Sivaganga Municipality Chairman Murugan was killed, suspect that an individual in Ramanathapuram district supplied explosives used for the blast.

A top police officer told The Hindu that the perpetrators of the crime had conducted trial blasts in a place near Sivaganga. They (the accused) had visited some of the wells, which were dug by using explosives. However, the police officer said the supplier was not connected with those who sent explosives to Sri Lanka. Several police parties were sent to the reported places to corroborate the claims.

Meanwhile, Mandhakalai, a DMK councillor of the Sivaganga Municipality, and Bala, who in police custody, were questioned for the third day on Sunday. “They (Mandhakalai and Bala) have confessed to the crime. It seems that cable TV business rivalry is the main reason for the killing of Murugan,” said Sanjeev Kumar, Inspector-General of Police (south zone).

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, S.S. Krishnamurthy, said investigation so far had revealed that they (Bala and Mandhakalai) had no link with terrorists.
