For damaging plaque kept in office
ERODE: The plaque kept inside the Vellottamparappu Panchayat Office was damaged and on the orders of the Madras High Court, case has been registered against four persons, including the panchayat Executive Officer.
According to Senthil, former Chairman of the Vellottamparappu Panchayat, some years back ago a plaque in memory of former Union Minister Rangarajan Kumaramangalam was placed in the Vellottamparappu panchayat office and it was inaugurated by Lalitha Kumaramangalam, sister of Rangarajan Kumaramangalam. A few days back, three persons said to be belonging to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam damaged the plaque and threw it in the River Cauvery, which is flowing just one km away from the panchayat office. The Executive Officer, who was in the office, remained a mute spectator.
Senthil said he filed complaints with the police and the District Collector, but nothing happened. So he filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court which directed the Malayampalayam police to register case against the four persons, including the Executive Officer.
Following the directive, the police registered the case a couple of days ago.
