Firm chooses them for teaching English, mathematics
MADURAI: Gone are the days when getting an employment was an uphill task. As a result, most of the deserving candidates had no other go but to settle for a job, which did not commensurate with their qualification. Moreover, that was the time when companies preferred only experienced candidates. But things have changed for the better now and virtually job offers with decent remuneration packages are at the doorsteps of students.
In the past three months, the number of job fairs has increased. For instance, starting with the one organised by the Madurai Kamaraj University on its campus to The Hindu Opportunities Fair-2007, many recruiting companies including Cognizant Technology Solutions, HCL, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Sanmar Speciality Chemicals, Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, Tata Consultancy Services and SRF Limited have visited the Temple City to find quality hands.
This time around, it was Tutors Worldwide (TWWI), which had pitched its tent at the American College looking for talent to work as online tutors for English and mathematics. In the recruitment drive organised by the Madurai Kamaraj University on Saturday, 14 candidates were selected for appointment as online tutors. Gross emoluments per month for graduates was Rs.11,000 while for postgraduates it was 12,000.
In all, 350 candidates drawn from various places, including Sattur, Virudhunagar, Theni, Periyakulam, Dindigul and Madurai, appeared for the written examination. Of them, 100 qualified for the second screening from which 40 persons were selected for the final interview.
“The participants were reasonably good in their subject. Unlike earlier instances, it has become a huge challenge for the recruiting companies to select candidates according to their requirement. Employability of the candidates has become a huge problem now,” said V. Chandershekar, vice president (Talent Acquisition), TWWI.
Expressing happiness over the response from the candidates, he said that the company would visit Madurai again in July.
It would conduct a recruitment drive in Coimbatore on June 23 and in Chennai on June 30. TWWI would visit Tiruchi and Salem during next month, he added.
