From Tirukkuvalai to Chennai

Nagapattinam: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has started operating bus service on a new route from Tirukkuvalai, native place of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, to Chennai.

U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development, who inaugurated the new route and new bus service on Thursday, said that 2.60 lakh people were travelling every day by buses in the district and pointed out that the Tirukkuvalai-Chennai bus service would benefit all sections.

The Minister said that 26 new bus routes were introduced after the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam came to power and pointed out that 78 lakh passengers were travelling by buses alone every month.

He said that 36 new buses were inducted into the existing fleet.

Tenkasi S. Jawahar, Collector, who presided, said the district administration had taken steps to introduce more buses depending upon the requirement of the people.
