Kozhikode: Kozhikode Chief Judicial Magistrate E. Francis, on Thursday, posted for hearing on Monday a petition seeking to prosecute Mandira Bedi, actor and television anchor, and Satya Paul, fashion designer, on charges of insulting the national flag.

On April 30, K.K. Pushparaj, of Koyilandy in the district, filed the petition. He said that Ms. Bedi had appeared in a sari bearing a print of the flag during a cricket telecast on April 28.

It was an offence punishable under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code.

Kozhikode First Class Judicial Magistrate V. Prakashan, who officiated in the capacity of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, had posted for hearing the petition on Thursday.

Mr. Francis asked the petitioner's counsel to submit a report on cases pending before various courts in the country on similar complaints.
