TAMBARAM: Chennai Suburban Police have arrested a 45-year-old woman on charges of stealing valuables from a house at Ambattur in which she was working as a domestic help.
A press release from the Commissionerate said K. Rathinammal was employed in the house of G. Ramesh in Ambattur.
In his complaint a few days ago, he had said that jewellery weighing about 15 sovereigns, a couple of mobile handsets and some cash were missing from his house. Rathinammal did not report for work since the first week of September. A police team conducted checks in Salem and Tiruvannamalai districts before picking up the woman in Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district. The valuables were also recovered from her.
Two held for robberies
Police have arrested two youths, Zakir Hussain (20) and A. Madhan (24), both of Saidapet, for their involvement in robberies in Guindy and St. Thomas Mount areas.
A press release said there was a complaint from R. Soundar (30) of Porur who said he had hired an autorickshaw on Thursday from Cement Road bus stop in Alandur to reach Azar Khana bus stop nearby. As the vehicle reached St. Thomas Mount Post Office, the driver and his accomplice threatened him at knife point, snatched jewellery and valuables, pushed him out and sped away. The duo had also robbed cash and valuables from 26-year-old Sheikh Naina of Guindy a couple of days later. On Sunday, the youths were arrested, the valuables recovered and their autorickshaw seized.
Youth held for serial theft
Peerkankaranai police on Sunday arrested 31-year-old Kumar for his involvement in a series of house break-ins, motorcycle thefts and other crime in Selaiyur, East Tambaram and Perungalathur areas.
Police said Kumar, hailing from Ginjee in Villupuram district, was involved in the theft of more than a dozen motorcycles, apart from laptops and jewellery from many houses in these places, most of which were recovered.
