CHENNAI: A judicial magistrate court at Tindivanam on Wednesday sent Sekar, owner of an explosives godown, to a week in police custody, in connection with the blast at Sendur near Tindivanam on Saturday, which claimed 16 lives. Sekar surrendered before a magistrate at Vellore and had been remanded to judicial custody. The police filed a petition seeking his custody.

Inspector-General of Police K. Radhakrishnan said remnants of the jeep that carried the "slurry explosives" had been sent to the court.

Police said the Mailam police would probe the case. Sekar would be taken to his godown at Pathirapuliyur to verify explosives stocked there, and to accident spot.
