MADURAI: The State Government should initiate steps for caste-wise enumeration while preparing the voter list, said N. Sethuraman, founder president, All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam (AIMMK), here on Wednesday.

Briefing presspersons, he said that such an exercise was imperative when reservation and social inequality were prevalent.

Such compartmentalised reservation system was in vogue in Kerala and Karnataka, Mr. Sethuraman added.

He also urged the State to declare the denotified tribes, who were now categorised as most backward class, as Scheduled Tribes.

Dr. Sethuraman wanted the State Government to announce Perungamanallur a `martyr's land' and grant pension to the heirs of those who sacrificed their life during British rule.

The AIMMK would visit the houses of members of legislative assembly and Parliament on April 8 and hand over the petitions stressing these demands, he said.
