VIT chancellor appeals to riders to wear helmets

VELLORE: Star City `ES', the self-start model of the `Star' brand of motorcycles from the stables of the TVS Motor Company Limited, was launched at a glittering function here on Saturday.

The event was organised jointly by the company and Swetha Enterprises, Vellore, at Krishna Mahal in Rangapuram near here.

The launch began with the dance number `Sarigame Padanise' by Shriram's music troupe soon after a few Star City `ES'-borne lads zoomed onto the dais on brand new motorbikes.

Compere Mamati Chari enlivened the show with her witty remarks, while `Kovai' Ashok and `Kovai' Ramesh of Vijay TV's `Kalakkapovadhu Yaar' fame and Sun TV's `Asathapovadhu Yaar' regaled the audience with their mimicry.

`Kovai' Ashok teamed up with `Kovai' Ramesh (dressed as a woman) to enact the song `Sutrum Vizhi Chudare', mimicking the popular film pairs of MGR-Saroja Devi and Sivaji-Saroja Devi.

R. Ramakrishnan, proprietor, Swetha Enterprises, said the company had decided to provide a 5-year warranty for the newly launched vehicle. Over 12 lakh Star City `ES' vehicles were currently on the roads in India, he said.

G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, Vellore Institute of Technology, appealed to two-wheeler riders to wear helmets for their safety.

Jayadev of Pichanur, Gudiyatham, won a Star City `ES' motorbike in a lucky draw held for the audience. Vellore MLA C. Gnanasekharan handed over the key of the vehicle to the prizewinner.
