NAMAKKAL: A team of officials seized 300 bags of rice meant for supply under the Public Distribution System (PDS) near here on Friday.

Official sources said on instructions from Collector G. Sundaramurthi, the team conducted a vehicle check up on Paramathi Velur main road. During the exercise, officials intercepted a lorry proceeding to Namakkal town and found rice in it. In the preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that the rice was being smuggled from Aruppukottai to a poultry farm. The Collector visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. Food cell personnel arrested driver Venkatesan (28) and cleaner Kumar (21). Earlier on Thursday, district supply officials and food cell personnel seized 220 bags of PDS rice and arrested a person in this connection.
