MADURAI: Security was beefed up at the railway station here on Monday as a precautionary measure following the bomb attack on Samjhauta Express at Panipat.
According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, P. Manoharan, the baggage of passengers was being frisked with the help of metal detectors.
Empty rakes of trains were checked before being allowed into platforms.
Armed personnel were deployed at wayside stations and passengers were advised not to board trains in the last minute.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) Divisional Security Commissioner, A.P. Babu Rao, said sniffer dogs were pressed into service.
Plainclothesmen were posted at vantage points on railway premises to keep watch on the movement of suspicious persons.
At least 48 surveillance cameras would be installed at strategic places by March 15, he added.
