Alarming rate of unemployment

The sales of 12 lakh applications and 7 lakh persons applying for 2,500 vacancies of Village Administrative Officer posts reflect the alarming percentage of unemployment in the State.

It is high time that both the Central and State governments think ways of reducing the number of unemployed persons to a minimum possible extent. While opening new industries, the Government should give priority to undeveloped and under-developed areas such as Ramanathapuram district.

A. Anvardeen,

It is common to see colourful posters on walls and festoons along streets to receive a VIP in a town or a village. Recently, I was witness to such an incident when the Chief Minister visited a town to attend a programme. Colourful posters, festoons and flags were found along the roads and streets. They were found even on roads where there were no people.

But is it justice to receive a VIP in such a luxurious manner? The party leader and the cadres could think over this and try to avoid luxury on such occasions.

V. Veerasamy,

Construct another bridge

In Paramakudi a bridge across the Vaigai was constructed 50 years ago connecting Ilayankudi and Nainarkovil. Buses bound for Tiruchi, Karaikudi and Pudukottai also pass through this bridge. During flood situation, officials used to prohibit vehicles from entering this bridge. Will the authorities construct a new bridge across the Vaigai?

V. Rajendran,

Family cards for domestic gas

Agencies supplying domestic gas in Madurai have been insisting all the consumers to produce their original family cards at the time of applying for connections.

It will be meaningful if the new consumers are asked to produce their original cards. But there is no justification in demanding the old consumers to bring their cards.

I request the Government to issue necessary instructions to all District Collectors as well as gas companies to stop forth with this direction.
