Tiruvarur: The Department of Art and Culture, on behalf of Jawahar Bal Bhavan run by it, will organise district-level competitions in fine arts for schoolchildren aged 5-16 years in the district at the Government Music School on Mayiladuthurai Road in Tiruvarur on February 18. According to a press release issued by R. Muthu, Regional Assistant Director, Department of Art and Culture here, competitions will be held in painting, music, folk songs, dance and bharathanatyam (excluding songs and dance from films).

Among the participants, children in the age group of 9 to 12 and 13 to 16, who get first prizes would be taken to State-level competition to be held at Kancheepuram on February 24 and 25.

Children interested in participating in the competitions should bring their age-proof certificate, cassette, player, harmonium etc., with them. Those who want to participate in the painting competition should bring 30-40 sheets of paper, watercolours and paints.

Those who go on to win in the State-level contest will participate in competitions to be held later at the zonal level, south zone-level and at the national level.

Those who win at the national level will be presented the `Ilanthiru' award by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
