CHENNAI: An inter-collegiate cultural festival was inaugurated at Guru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women on January 18 by Minister for Information, Publicity and Urban Development Parithi Ilamvazhuthi. The Minister talked about the important role played by cultural events in education. Playback singer Mahathi, who was the guest of honour at Sargam 2007, performed before the audience consisting of participants from 21 city colleges.

Various events that were conducted included "Couple Charishma, Pattuku Pattu, Dance Divas, Chaal Dhamaal and Ms. Sargam". Students also participated in "Flower Power, Rang de Crockery, Bride n Prejudice and Wrap with Elegance". Cine and television artists as well as professionals judged the events. At the valedictory function, attended by classical musician Anuradha Krishmurthi, playback singer Sunitha Sarathy and actor `Jeyam' Ravi, the overall best performance prize was given to MOP Vaishnav College.
