MADURAI: Hundreds of city residents are expected to participate in the Madurai Marathon 2007, an event meant for sensitising them on the importance of water resources, to be held on January 13.

Students, members of self-help groups, farmers and general public will participate in a mini-marathon and walk. A run for differently-abled people and an event for roller-skating enthusiasts have also been organised. Banks, an insurance company and educational institutions are part of the event that will be coordinated by Dhan Foundation. The participants will be given a book, `Neerindri ... ' (Without water) and a cap.

Chinnapillai, leader of Kalanjiam Movement, released the 60-page book on water bodies here on Wednesday.

The Deputy General Manager, Canara Bank, S.V. Krishnamoorthi, and Anand Kumar, cluster head, ICICI Bank, received the first copies. All those who want to participate in the event can register their names at the Madurai Medical College Grounds from 6 p.m. on January 12 till 6 a.m. the next day.

The mini-marathon will begin at 7 a.m. The runners will touch Aravind Eye hospital and pass through Kurvikkaran Salai bridge, P.T. Rajan bridge and Anna Nagar.
