PUDUCHERRY: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has recognised the MBBS degree awarded by the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute of Pondicherry University.

According to a release from James J. Gnanadoss, institute director, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has recommended to the Ministry to allow the institute to increase the number of seats in the undergraduate course from 100 to 150 from 2007-08.

He also said the MCI had permitted the institute to start various postgraduate courses in clinical subjects.
