CHENNAI: In less than 12 hours, the city police resolved a case of missing car and arrested the accused on Sunday.

Police said that based on a complaint from a tourist cab operator Kesavan of Raja Raja Chozhan Street Kumaran Nagar Padi that his car was missing since Saturday evening, Korattur police registered a case.

The registration number of the vehicle was communicated to all police stations through the police control room and the check-posts were alerted. Commissioner of Police Letika Saran directed a special team to probe the case.

Investigations revealed that the driver whose name was given as Velmurugan of Tiruchendur was driving the vehicle. He stayed in a portion in Kesavan's office and was terminated from service only two days ago for some alleged irregularities in handling finances received from customers.

As Velmurugan had to repay about Rs.1,500 to Kesavan, he had withheld the driver's driving licence book.

The police team rushed to the Koyambedu bus terminus and at around 6 a.m. on Sunday, they spotted Velmurugan who was about to board a bus.

Based on his confession, police traced the vehicle, which was reportedly parked near Naidu Hall T.Nagar parking lot. Velmurugan had clandestinely taken the car with the help of a duplicate key.
