The exhibits, brought from about 15 schools, pertained to 11 themes such as mathematics, physics, botany, micro-biology, environmental protection, ecology, telecommunication and zoology. The exhibition forms the third phase of the programme for selection of best exhibits for participation in the State-level exhibition to be held shortly. Students exhibited their talents through their models.
In the first phase, school-level science exhibition was held on July 15 as part of celebrations of the birth anniversary of the late Kamaraj; in the second phase, educational-district level exhibitions were held at Aranthangi and Pudukottai; among them, the best exhibits and models were selected for the Revenue district-level exhibition.
The Chief Educational Officer, S. Chellam, who inaugurated the exhibition, said that the exhibition proved the fact that, given a chance and proper guidance, students would bring out their creativity with an innovation in approach and excellence in design.
She also said that every chart and model at the exhibition brought out the students’ talent. A competition will be organised by Periyar University with a view to promoting the students’ talent and knowledge in scientific Tamil.
The University will also organise a two-day State-level ‘Scientific Tamil exhibition’ in October. Students’ aptitude in adopting scientific principles through the effective use of Tamil language would be encouraged.
The exhibition also sought to create awareness among the student community about the relevance of Tamil in learning science, she said.
Students from Pudukottai district would be selected and sent to the exhibition, she added.
Students from different schools visited the exhibition. The District Educational Officer Madevan Pillai was among those who were present at its inaugural.
