Order passed on application filed by Kamal Haasan

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has restrained until further orders cine actor Kamal Haasan, a partnership firm and an entertainment company from making any statement relating to an agreement for producing the Tamil film “Marmayogi.”

Justice G. Rajasuria passed the order on an application by Kamal Haasan and Raajkamal Films International, represented by its partner, S. Chandrahasan, seeking to restrain Pyramid Saimira Production International Limited, represented by its Managing Director, P. S. Swaminathan, and Director, K. S. Srinivasan, from making any statement relating to the contract dated April 2, 2008.

In the affidavit, Mr. Kamal Haasan said the false accusations made against him by Pyramid Saimira were given wide publicity. Only after he explained the true facts, did the public understand the “falsity of the allegation and the depth of meanness” on the part of the entertainment company’s directors. “The evil intention behind this smear campaign in an attempt to tarnish my image is to spoil the chances of success of my new picture, Unnaipol Oruvan.” If the company continued with its tirade, making all kinds of baseless and false allegations against him, he would be put to great hardship, he said. Hence, Mr.Kamal Haasan prayed the court to restrain the defendants from making any statement relating to the MoU without prior permission of the court.

Mr. Justice Rajasuria said the applicants and defendants could raise pleas as per law in their suits and litigation.
