TNSTC to operate special buses to Tiruvannamalai
Tiruvannamalai: Thousands of people on Saturday participated in the Tiruvannamalai temple car festival celebrated as part of Karthigai Deepam festival.
Wooden cars of Lord Vinayakar and Murugan were taken in procession around Mada Streets in the morning. The decorated temple car, popularly called as ‘Periya Ther,’ started its procession at about 4 p.m. Collector M. Rajendran, Superintendent of Police M. Pandiyan, DRO S.Viswanathan, MLAs K. Pichandi and P.S. Vijayakumar, chairman, board of trustees of the temple V. Dhanusu, Joint Director HR&CE M. Pugazhendiran, and municipal chairman R. Sridharan took part in the celebration.
Parents went around the temple carrying their children in ‘sugarcane cradle’ to fulfil vows.
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), Vellore region, will be operating 350 special buses from different places to Tiruvannamalai from November 30 to December 2 to help people visiting Tiruvannamalai for the Karthigai Deepam festival on December 1.
According to a release from C. Jegadeesan, General Manager, TNSTC, Vellore region, 150 special buses would be operated from Vellore, 100 buses from Tirupattur, and 50 buses each from Chennai and Arcot.
