KRISHNAGIRI: Water was released from the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP) Dam for the second crop on Wednesday. Krishnagiri MLA T. Senguttuvan opened the sluice gates after a simple puja.

About 100-cubic ft water was released through two canals which would irrigate 9,012 acre of farmlands in 16 villages. The canal water reaches 28 small lakes on its way.

As per the orders of the Local Administration Minister, M.K. Stalin, water would be released continuously for 120 days for irrigation depending on the water level and rain in Kelevarapalli dam.

The villages that would benefit from the water release are Periyamuthur, Sundekuppam, Thimmapuram, Soutaalli, Thalialli, Kalvealli, Kundalapatti, Mittaalli, Erraalli, Penneswaramadam, Kaveripattinam, Palekuli, Marichettialli, Nagojanaalli, Janappaalli and Piyur.
