ERODE: Residents of S. Kallivalasu village, near Dharapuram, have petitioned the district administration seeking restoration of a pathway which had been fenced off by a person claiming to be the owner of the land through which the pathway is made. In their petition to the Collector at the weekly grievance day meeting here on Monday, they said that the residents of the village and neighbouring Navidhan Pudur and Sadayampalayam had been using a village thoroughfare for at least four generations.

Even the residents of Kunkumam Palayam and Veruvadampalayam also used the thoroughfare to reach the road that took them to Palladam and Dharapuram.

Not only that the residents of several villages in the area used the pathway to reach the bus stop and also the aforementioned two towns. In 1968, the panchayat had spent money to repair the thoroughfare, the existence of which has been acknowledged in Government records.

The residents cited a 1927 Government map of the area to support their claim.

Allegation

The villagers added that a few days ago, a person claiming to be the owner of land through which the pathway passed, had fenced the area, putting hundreds of villagers at misery.

Because of the fencing, school students, farm workers and others were forced to take an indirect route, the villagers said. They urged the district administration to restore the pathway.
