CHENNAI: P. Vijayan, Director, National Maritime Academy in Chennai, has been appointed first Vice-Chancellor of the Indian Maritime University.

The decision on the appointment, which is for a duration of three years, was conveyed by Union Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T.R. Baalu to the President Pratibha Patil, who is the Visitor of the university, says a press note here on Sunday. As the Vice-Chancellor is the Principal Executive and Academic Officer of the university, Mr. Vijayan shall exercise supervision and control and give effect to the decisions of all the authorities of the university.
