Fast in front of Ponnamaravathy bus stand today

PUDUKOTTAI: The Tirumayam unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the State Government to take action for the implementation of the government order on the bifurcation of the Tirumayam taluk. The taluk unit of the party has planned to launch a fast stir on Saturday.

During Budget session early this year, the government sanctioned bifurcation of two taluks – Tirumayam and Alkankudi in the district _ with Ponnamaravathy and Karambakudi as the headquarters of new taluks.

Referring to the GO issued subsequently, the Tirumayam unit of the CPI, at its meeting held here, said that the G.O. was yet to see the light of the day.

It sought immediate action for its implementation. The carving out of the new taluk, with Ponnamaravathy as the new headquarters, would facilitate the villagers to obtain necessary certificates and other assistance from the taluk office.

The meeting also adopted a resolution urging the government to open a primary health centre at Meladhaniyam village, taking into consideration the large number of population in and around the village in need of health care facility.

The meeting urged the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to introduce a bus service between Ponnamaravathy and Aranthangi via Lena Vilakku for college students. The meeting also adopted a resolution urging the district administration to demolish group houses constructed decades ago in Vellalapatti, Soorapatti, Meladhaniya Kamarajapuram, Keezhadhaniyam and Idayampatti.

Releasing a copy of resolutions to presspersons here on Friday, the party taluk secretary A. L. Rasu said that the cadres of the party would observe a day’s fast in support of these demands in front of the bus stand in Ponnamaravathy on Saturday.
