Thanjavur: Students should imbibe the patriotic spirit of warriors like Marudhu Pandiyars (Marudhu brothers-Chinna Marudhu and Periya Marudhu) said M. Rajendran, Vice-chancellor, Tamil University here on Sunday.

Delivering the ninth convocation address at Marudhupandiyar College of Arts and Science, Rajendran said that even before Sepoy’s mutiny, Marudhu brothers declared the freedom fight by pasting posters at Sri Rangam temple.

They are well versed in Boomerang warfare. “Their love for Tamil, our country and their valour should be emulated by the youth,” he said.

“Develop spirit of sacrifice”

He also advised the students to develop the spirit of sacrifice.

He stressed the importance of struggle in life to achieve great things.

Degrees to students

The Vice-chancellor distributed degrees to 324 students. P. Kasinathan, Principal of the college said that M. Aarthi of M.Com secured first rank in the Bharathidasan University in the exams held in April 2007.

M. Ezhilpavai of M. Sc Biotechnology secured eighth rank.

P. Sathya Priya of M.Sc. Microbiology secured fifth rank.

S. Saranya of BBA secured twelth rank and G. Akila of B.Sc Microbiology secured 16th rank.

B. Barathidasan, Secretary of the Marudhupandiyar institutions and Dr. N. Gnanadhiraviyam, Co-ordinator of Marudhupandiyar institutions participated in the convocation.
