CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University will present honorary doctorates to 12 persons closely associated with the medical profession on the occasion of its 19th convocation to be held on Tuesday.

Among those to be honoured are Ketan Desai, president, Medical Council of India and Anil Kohli, president, Dental Council of India; S.S.K. Marthandam, chairman and director of orthopaedics, Sri Ramachandra University, who was in the news recently when he treated Chief Minister Karunanidhi for a back problem.

Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals; G. Bakthavathsalam, Chairman and Managing Trustee of K.G. Hospital and PG Medical Institute, Coimbatore, and T.S. Chandrasekar, Founder-Chairman, MedIndia Hospital, are also being awarded the D.Sc. (Honoris Causa).

Senior professors retired from government service are to be conferred doctorate: R. Radhakrishnan, retired Superintendent, Government Royapettah Hospital; M. Ahmed Ali, former professor of Surgical Gastroenterology, Madras Medical College; T.P. Raghava Bharadwaj, former head of the department of Haematology, MMC, and M.S. Ramachandran, retired professor of medicine.

T. Ramachandran, consultant physician, New Hope Medical Centre, EVR Periyar Road, and G. Balakrishnan, Medical Director, Right Hospitals, will also be honoured.
