CHENNAI: Speakers, led by Madras High Court Judge F.M. Ibrahim Kalifullah, paid tributes to Ramaswamy Mudaliar, a philanthropist, on Monday, his 168th birth anniversary.

They said Ramaswamy Mudaliar (1840-1911), who received the knighthood from the British, was responsible for establishing hospitals in Chennai, Cuddalore and Kancheepuram, besides a library in the city.

Mr Kalifullah lauded the inheritors of Ramaswamy Mudaliar for following the lofty ideals he had set.

R. Subramanian, senior advocate, N. Authinathan, administrator general of official trustee of Tamil Nadu, and S.V.R. Ramprasad, great-grandson of the philanthropist and co-trustee of Rajah Sir Ramaswamy Mudaliar choultry trust estate, participated in the function.
