TIRUCHI: The Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme for 146 habitations in Manikandam and nearby areas would be completed by December, Collector T. Soundiah has said.

Speaking at the Grama Sabha meeting at Nagamangalam here on Thursday, Mr. Soundiah said residents in Nagamangalam panchayat would get adequate drinking water supply once the scheme was commissioned. He appealed to the village panchayat representatives to be aware of the government schemes and monitor their implementation. If there were any shortcomings, they should bring it to the notice of the district officials.

He assured them that prompt action would be taken if they reported any shortcoming in the supply of essential commodities through the public distribution system.

Mr.Soundiah said that the subsidy provided for construction of individual house toilets under the Total Sanitation Campaign has been increased to Rs.2,200. Beneficiaries need to contribute only Rs.300, he said.

Gram Sabha meetings were held in all the 408 village panchayats in the district. The meetings discussed the execution of the Rural Infrastructure Scheme, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam and Total Sanitation Campaign.
