Coimbatore: The two-week old Coimbatore Passport office on Friday issued two white passports to two doctors who will be on a tour to Jeddah to render medical assistance to the Haj Pilgrims from India.
Passport Officer, Coimbatore, B. Balamurugan told The Hindu, brown passports were issued to diplomats. Dr. Masood Basha, Medical Officer, residing at Gapanathy and Abdul Rehman, Assistant Surgeon from Erode, got the passports. These two doctors would have to reach Jeddah between October 18 and November 1 and would be working with the Indian Mission there for conducting medical tests, rendering medical assistance and providing certificates to Haj Pilgirims.
The recently inaugurated Passport Office, which did not have white passports coordinated with the Regional Passport Office in Chennai for issuing these passports.
Mr. Balamurugan said that in the last ten working days, the Coimbatore Passport office had despatched 700 passports while it had received 3,400 applications. The number of applicants seeking passports had risen by 25 per cent with the opening of a passport office here, he added.
