Chennai: A 55-year-old man who was allegedly roughed up by a group of men following a quarrel over a road accident, died hours later. Police registered a case of murder and arrested three men in this connection.

According to sources, the deceased, Arunagiri, a timber merchant, was a resident of Sadappa Mudali Street, West Mambalam.

His son, Balakrishnan, met with an accident near the Aranganathan subway on Tuesday night after his bicycle collided with the motorcycle of Chandrasekar alias Mani (42) of Sharathambal Street in Saidapet.

The duo got into an argument and Arunagiri intervened. Chandrasekar called five of his friends for assistance.

According to the police, the argument snowballed into a fight, in which Arunagiri was injured. A few hours later, Arunagiri complained of severe back pain and was taken to a private hospital in Saidapet. From there, he was referred to Government Royapettah Hospital, where he was pronounced ‘brought dead,’ the sources said.
