CHENNAI: For fitness freaks and sports enthusiasts in the city, here’s another interesting event coming up in the city. The Sports Organising Committee of the Indian Institute of Technology–Madras will hold its ‘Golden Jubilee Run’ on September 21.
Speaking on the event, Varun Gupta, sports secretary, IIT-Madras, said the run was open to residents of the city and to all age groups. “There are different categories that men, women and senior citizens can participate in.”
Organisers said the run, to be organised inside the green and quiet premises of the Institute, is bound to be a very different and interesting experience for participants.
The run will be for a distance of 9 km. Arrangements such as refreshment stalls, check-posts, a safety car and medical aid will be made, organisers said. The route will be disclosed at a later date.
Bus service will be available at the Institute’s main gate from 6 a.m. The event will commence at 6:30 a.m. at the athletics stadium. Organisers also propose to raise funds in aid of victims of the flood in Bihar.
Winners of the run will receive certificates. The Sports Organising Committee also plans to give participants ‘GJ run’ t-Shirts.
The run will mark the inauguration of ‘Sportsfest’, a mega inter-collegiate sports tournament to be organised by IIT-Madras. Nearly 40 city colleges will compete in a host of events, including badminton, volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis, water polo and chess.
