CHENNAI: Tamil daily Dinamalar has preferred a complaint against Sun News (of the Sun Network) for giving a communal angle to an agitation held in Vellore by a Muslim organisation condemning a cartoon published by the newspaper in its September 1 edition.

Based on the complaint lodged by the Tamil daily’s News Editor, Parthiba Maharajan, the Central Crime Branch police on Tuesday issued summons to the News Editor of Sun News, Raja.

A case has been registered under Section 153 (A) (1) (a) (b) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 505 (2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of IPC.

CCB sources said since the authorities in the Sun News had replied that it was Murasoli Selvam who was the Chief Managing Editor and Head of the News Department, he might also be summoned to explain the charges levelled against the network.
