CHENNAI: A mock hijack exercise was conducted at the airport here on Thursday night.

Personnel of the National Security Guard (NSG), led by Director J.K. Dutt, conducted the programme.

Airport sources said that under the exercise, the passengers of a flight would be kept as hostages by a group of terrorists, and they would demand ransom for setting them free. When the information reached the agencies involved in providing security in airports, personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force would cordon off the aircraft and inform the NSG personnel. In the meantime, officials of other agencies such as the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security would hold talks with the abductors.

The NSG conducted similar exercises at the Hyderabad airport on Wednesday and at the Bangalore airport on Tuesday.
